Configuring Dial-Up Networking

 

1. In Windows 95/98 double-click on my computer and then double-click on the Dial Up

Networking folder or in Windows ME click on Start>Settings>Dial Up Networking.

2. Next, double-click on the "Make New Connection" icon.

4. You will be prompted to type a name for the computer you are dialing, enter

"SOCAL" then click next.

5. Next you must enter the phone number of the service you are dialing. To access

our San Diego 619 number, for example, enter 619 in the area code field and 364-3733 in the phone number field, then click next.

6. Click Finish.

7. Right-click on SOCAL and in the menu that appears left-click on properties.

In Windows 95/98 click on the Server Types tab and uncheck everything but "TCP/IP"

then click ok.

In Windows ME click on the networking tab and uncheck everything but "TCP/IP" then click ok.

8. Right-click on SOCAL and in the menu that appears left-click on Create Shortcut then say yes

to allow Windows to place the shortcut on the desktop.

9. Close back to the desktop and you should see "Shortcut to SOCAL."

10. Double-click on the "Shortcut to SOCAL" then enter your user information and click on connect.

Once you get connected double-click on your browser to surf the internet.
